It is hard not to compare yourself to others, after all it survival of the fittest right? Some parties will say "never compare yourself to anyone" which is understandably good advice, we all have different paths we travel and not one of has the exact same destiny. Comparing my journey to your journey though we may have similarities we are still two different people and how you may respond to a life event may be different than how I would respond to the exact same event. Sometimes when we compare it leads to some form measuring of ones worth or value, like a form of hierarchy leading to one person being more superior than the other. When this occurs it often leads to depression, hopelessness, anxiety, and usually a complete halt of all progression in the specific are of life. But that is just dark and gloomy side of comparison.Comparison can also be a functional tool for growth, but maybe comparison is the wrong term, maybe CONTRAST is better way of going about it.Contrast highlights the areas of where difference takes place. When we see how someones journey differs from ours it could give us insight into how we could improve our own outcome, whether it be seeing mistakes or successes. With seeing the contrast between lives verses comparing life we are able to utilize another's journey as a ladder to climb through life instead of trying to equate ourselves to someone who may not be an equal. Whether you choose to compare or see the contrast there is only one person who matters in the whole equation, YOU! Who were you yesterday? Last week? Last year? That is someone you can compare yourself to, yourself. How do you measure up? Have you grown? How about the contrast, how are you different? Where did you grow?Again, whether you choose to compare or see the contrast there is only one person who matters in the whole equation, YOU!
