Today Was A Good Day

Have you ever had one of those days where everything was just easy going?

Reminds of that old Ice Cube song “Today Was A Good Day” and you wake up just thanking God and you don’t know why but the day seems kind of odd. Even better, you don’t even have to use your AK.

But in all seriousness it was a good day.

Woke up well rested even though I was up much later than normal.
Traffic lights, what traffic and what lights? I think I maybe hit only one red light.
When I got to work the parking lot was completely full and then majestically a parking space opened up.
Work was pretty easy going.
My girlfriend came back into town.
Someone complimented my “Hump Day” shirt.
Lastly, tomorrow is PAYDAY!

With the busyness of life it is easy to overlook things that seem insignificant or unimportant but really it is these things that lead up to being able to celebrate the larger things in life. I convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that in order to be genuinely happy we must also be unapologetic in our thankfulness. Thankful for the small things and for the life changing moments we encounter, but it starts with the small stuff.

When I was thinking about this on the way to work two things came to mind. The first being a bible verse that says if we are faithful with little we will be given more. The second being that even as my day was starting I had already decided that my day was going to be good.

So the first thing, the bible verse. Luke 16:10, be faithful in little things and you will be faithful in big things. This implies that when we are faithful with the small things in life we will be given the opportunity show that same faithfulness in large life events. So be thankful for that pain in the ass boss, this means you have a job! No traffic! I live in Southern California, that is like Jesus turning water into wine for us and I was very thankful. Most of the small things we can be thankful for are only a matter of perspective.

***Side Note: Something that helped me a few years back was looking at something like an electric bill being a positive thing, an electric bill means I have a roof over my head and that I have somewhere to call my own.

My Second item, I determined that I was going to have a good day. It was already a thought in my mind. My day had barely started and I was thinking it was a good day, queue the Ice Cube song now please. Your day, more dramatic, YOUR LIFE will be what you decide it to be.

In short, be thankful and create your own destiny!

And for you gangsta rap fans…
